How to get a truly free credit report and use it in your bankruptcy

As part of filing your bankruptcy, you should obtain a free credit report and bring it to your lawyer. The only website that provides truly free credit reports is www.annualcreditreport.com. This site is sponsored by the Federal Trade Commission and is very reliable. Other websites that advertise free credit reports might be deceiving you in the hopes of selling you some sort of credit monitoring service.

The www.annualcreditreport.com website allows you to request one credit report per year from each of the 3 credit bureaus, so you can get three reports per year. Make sure to request and print one of these reports and provide it to your lawyer along with the rest of your documentation for your case. This report is a useful but incomplete source of information about your creditors. It might be incomplete because credit reports do not include all of your creditors. For example: many hospitals, medical companies, and small businesses do not report debts to the credit bureaus. This means that the report won't show these debts, and they might not be listed and discharged in your case unless you have a bill to show the debt.

So the best strategy is to bring the report along with all of your bills so that your lawyer can list all of your creditors and prepare the most accurate bankruptcy petition possible.
