Pre-Bankruptcy credit counseling instructions:
- One of the requirements of filing for bankruptcy is that you complete a credit counseling case with an approved provider. This can be done over the phone or the Internet.
- Do not complete this course until our fees are paid in full, the certificate is only valid for 100 days.
- Before starting make sure that you have your list of creditors and the budget that our office gave you and a pad and paper for notes.
- This course will take you approximately 30-60 minutes.
- We work with three different counseling services, so choose whichever you like of the three below and follow the instructions.
Money Management International (Phone Only)
Call them at 1-888-845-5669. Tell them you need to complete the "Pre-bankruptcy counseling" course. Give them our account number, which we have mailed to you (call us if you haven't received it). After completing the course ask MMI to fax the certificate to our office at (612) 824-8005. MMI will give you a client number, which you should keep for further reference.
Cricket Debt Counseling (Internet & Phone)
Go to their website http://www.cricketdebt.com then click on the "start counseling" button and follow the directions for new clients. Enter our attorney code, which we have mailed to you (call us if you don't have it). At the end of the session you will need to speak with one of the counselors, who are available Monday-Friday until 4:00 p.m. at 1-866-719-0400. For married couples both spouses need to speak to a counselor.
Hummingbird (Internet & Phone)
Go to their website http://www.hbcce.org choose "before bankruptcy," start a new session and fill out the requested information. Be sure to write down your session ID number so that you can resume the session if interrupted. Once you complete the session they will give you a control number, write this down as it is important later. Now you must call Hummingbird at 1-800-645-4959 to verify your information with a counselor. They are available 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. weekdays and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm weekends. Make sure to tell Hummingbird that you are from Curtis K. Walker Law Office and that we are registered with Hummingbird. Once you have completed the counseling, please contact our office at (612) 824-4357 so we can print your certificate.
